To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

I am a bit conflicted with the presentation I want to create.  I want to display my message in the way that majority of us think.  I have to be in love with what I am presenting in order to convince my fellow classmates that I enjoyed researching my own questions, thoughts, and ideas.   I am a very concise person, so to me cutting right to the point is very important.  No one wants to be ran around and then left with every question unanswered. I started out wanting to use www.goanimate.com , but after being introduced to the different sites during class on Wednesday such as: Prezi, Powtoon, Presentation Tube, Pixton, iMovie, MovieMaker, etc.  I have a lot of different options, and I would utilize each of the different qualities from the two project creating sites that I find most beneficial to me.  Those sites are Go! Animate and Powtoon.  I think; being that they are both cartoon sites, Go! Animate and Powtoon give me leeway to make my presentation comical and get my point across at the same time.  Presentation Tube and Pixton are decent sites, but I do not think they are appropriate.  I firmly believe in having fun with a presentation.  If you cannot convince yourself of the message or messages you telling your audience, then you have not done it right.  A presenter has only a few seconds to catch their audience’s attention.  I know that is at least true for me.  Once you have started talking, you only have about 15 seconds to grab me; when you have my attention, it is your job to keep me interested and active within the subject at hand.

So with that said, I will continuously work on how to keep my audience focused and engaged with my topic of success.  We all have our own idea of it, but sometimes we do not get to express or get asked what it we may see in the subject of success.

Have a Fabulous Weekend!

I don't have questions about the inquiry project and presentation.  I did a portfolio last semester in my ENGL 1101 and did very well, so I just intend on elaborating and expounding upon what I did in that class and carrying it over to this ENGL 1102 class.  If questions do occur, then I will gladly bring them up in class.

For my research, I have decided on finding the true definition of success, and whether or no it is a linear pathway.  In order to find the definition one must understand that there is no true definition of success.  I plan on speaking with respectable adults who believe they have fulfilled their purpose in life, those individuals who have their "dream job," and those seeking to find or make their way to their own complete and full destiny.  What does it take to met the goal of true success?  Are there set  pathways for success?  What kind of work does it take to achieve success?  Can there be too much success?  My questions all boil down to whether success is the same for all individuals.  This is what I am proposing for my research project.

I do not propose that anything be changed in the education system. You can agree or disagree, and it honestly will not matter to me, because everyone is entitled to their own opinion.  I believe that the students have to be truly willing to put forth the effort in their own learning.  Like my mom and I always say, "You get out of it, what you put in it."  One can not expect things to just be handed to them, because they "think" they deserve.  Over half the people that attended this university, and were babied and passed along through high school probably failed, because they did not have the motivation to want better for themselves.  Boundaries need to be set with teachers, they need to know that they can no longer just pass a student a by because they do not want to work with them.  That is their job, and if they do not like it, they do not need to step foot back into a classroom. On the students behalf, they need to want what they are asking to become in life; become self-motivated to be all they can.  I completely agree that college is not for everyone.  I do not care if someone is older, has a college degree (B.A, M.A, of Ph.D), or thinks they now everything; it does not mean that they are smarter than me, yes they have experience, but so do I.  It all boils down to common sense, and knowing right from wrong.  If an individual wants something, they should go after it with everything they have, and if they need help, they can ask.  You can just sit around hoping things will get done on their own.

The educational system has become so standardized that is has forgotten that every student is not the same.  Being open-minded about certain things opens the gateway to understanding what is truly need to be successful. I for one became so used to the model of I, B, C.  It was introduced to be in the form of a sandwich.  The bun was the I, meaning Intro and C, meaning closing.  The B was the body; in sandwich terms was the meat, lettuce, mayo, and what ever other condiments  that were needed to make the sandwich the absolute best.  As time passed through school for me, the 5 paragraph essay became more clear.   We needed all this stuff in this tiny sheet of 8.5" by 10" paper, but were limited in what could be said.    In my personal experience I was constricted by the structure of the paper, I felt as though I could not write what I really wanted to say; that was boring, that is why I did not enjoy writing in high school, unless it was a book or story I was passionate about.  The writings I am passionate about are my best work.  If I have no passion, then I will just say stuff to say it, because it has no connection with me what so ever.

"Average? Who wants to be average?"  (Rose 186)

We all want to be Average. *Pause* Hmm, I do not want to be Average, I just want to be me. Me is the best person I can be. Though sometimes I wish that I was Average. Just a normal girl wanting to achieve our hopes and dreams. We all wish to something greater than ourselves. Greater than the person next to us, wanting to make the world a better place;  a safe place. A place of equal opportunity. I hate being normal. My boyfriend always tells me that he can never understand me, and my response is always "Good, I want you to use the time we're together to get to understand me. I'm different from all the rest. You'll never find someone like me, so if you chose to leave, you're leaving behind something different; better than just normal." Average is bland, there is nothing different about it. Average is the definition of conformity. That is what normal, average people do, they make a fool of themselves trying to be like everybody else.

“My folks would say that they wanted me to go to college and be a
doctor, but I don't know how seriously I ever took that;” (Rose 191)

My mom not once ever told me this. I was appalled at the fact the she never told me that now that I have actually thought about it. She only wanted me to do the best that I can. To be what I wanted to be. To do something I love and know I can be successful in.  To make a difference in the world and stand out by taking risks and doing nothing the same as anyone else.  My mom wants me to be my best and don't strain myself.  My work ethic is dependent on my motivation and how important the topic is to me. I want to leave this world knowing that it has been made a little bit better than the day before.

Rose does not really have the best style of making things fun and interesting, he wrote this article in such a narrative way.  I prefer more of a fun, lively piece. I need to be kept involved and held tight into the words. I do not like bland academic pieces, but I respect them.  The authors, in the same position of Rose, have a tough time trying to keep people interested. That is just their style and we cannot change that. Overall it was a great piece, and I enjoyed it for the thoughts it gave me and how it allowed me to reflect on my own life.  It let me see how fortunate my life is compared to what is laid out in front of others in their daily lives.
